Assessment & Treatment

Clinical and Research Practice

In our Clinical and Research practice, we find the ‘Cause’ is often missed and all the focus of rehabilitation is focused on the ‘Effect’. Causality (also referred to as causation) is the relation between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is understood as a physical consequence of the first.  We spend up to two hours with you to complete a full-body intrinsic and extrinsic biomechanical and health screens, establishing any areas of mechanical or cellular weakness you may have.  Generally, these screens tend to identify areas of dysfunction you may not always be aware of but may lead to pain or discomfort in other areas of your body.

Blueprint Biomechanics Assessment & Coaching

The essence of restoring movement.  To move pain, symptom-free, and perform at your best you need to have optimal biomechanics. Biomechanics is about looking at the way your bones and muscles communicate with each other, and what loads are created and go through them during specific tasks. This is where the ‘nitty-gritty’ to possible cause-and-effect and better understood.Click to view Tests included in Assessment.

1:1 BodyMOT Coaching (Functional Nutrition)  Assessment & Coaching

Since qualifying as a Sports Nutritionist in 1991, I guarantee you I have heard, seen, and experienced many varieties of food planning that claims to ‘do the job’ better and faster than its predecessor.

You a probably familiar with the saying ‘we are not all created equal’; each one of us demanding different modalities to improve our health and well-being – and there is no truer word spoken in nutrition.  As varied as we are on the outside i.e. eye colour, facial features, sex, height, shape, and skin tone, is as different as we are on the inside.

Yes, there are many nutritional sciences that we may apply to a population, however, we must remain mindful that the very design we live in today has evolved through the paths we have walked in our lives. This is what makes us unique and if your pursuit for well-being has not considered this, then will you ever optimise your design?

ABCDE’s of Assessing you…

Posture Analysis

Posture Analysis is a great tool to enable you to begin to understand ‘why’ your alignment may be causing your symptoms of discomfort. Whilst we measure the reduction of your symptoms and your ability to ‘do things again’, it is also an invaluable way to ‘measure’ our successes of specific treatment/corrective exercise choices that give you your ‘biggest bang for your buck’.

To move pain, symptom-free, and perform at your best you need to have optimal biomechanics. Biomechanics is about looking at the way your bones and muscles communicate with each other, and what loads are created and go through them during specific tasks. This is where the ‘nitty-gritty’ to possible cause-and-effect and better understood.

Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things and your cells constantly communicate with each other, responding to your environment and to the signals they receive from what you touch and how you move. If your cells cannot operate efficiently, the functioning of your tissues and organs will become compromised, and you can experience a diminishment of physical functioning and the onset of a host of health conditions and diseases.  We focus on cellular health to support your body staying young and healthy.

Your nutrient levels will also guide us to the possible causes of your symptoms.  If necessary, we shall complete a few nutrient tests on you allowing us to discuss some suggestions on how we can add to your weekly nutrition plan to assist with your symptoms at a cellular level.

Ergonomics allow us to assess the way you sit in a chair, at your desk, or even in your car to ensure all the work we do together trying to eliminate your symptoms is not ‘undone’ as soon as you drive away from your appointment with us. We shall advise and arrange your environment to ensure you are able to interact most efficiently and safely without detriment to your progression.

Motor Control

The ‘Control’ part of your assessment is where we look at your control during movement i.e. standing, sitting, squatting, twisting etc.  We begin to understand your personal story by working out if you have too much, too little, or poor control of movement and how these observations relate to your personal symptoms and goals – this allows us to identify ‘Primary Drivers’ to your symptoms.

We work with you to create the right Team for your rehabilitation, i.e. Massage Therapists, Nutritionists, Physical Therapists etc. from our large network of Professionals.  We also create a full colour report detailing everything that was discussed and discovered during our appointment together to support your rehabilitation.

ABCDEF’s of your Personal Treatment Plan

Dry Needling

Acupuncture is the therapeutic use of needles to stimulate the nervous system and is by far the most effective therapy for his (Ulett, 1992). Although classical acupuncture has placed great emphasis on the ‘Qi’ (chi) or ‘flow’ of energy, it is now commonly used with functional disturbances i.e. muscle spasm, pain, inflammation and injury (Culp & Ochao, 1982).

Bowen Therapy

The Bowen technique is not a form of massage but involves a series of rolling type moves at specific key points on the body where the focus is about assisting your body to restore function.  This technique is not about treating your ‘tag’ it is about treating you – the person. The technique is very gentle and can be performed through light clothing, no oils or equipment is used.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a form of bodywork or alternative therapy using gentle touch to palpate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium.  Some people use craniosacral therapy as an adjunct to other forms of treatment, including migraine headaches, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma of any kind, post-surgical recovery, TMJ (jaw joint issues), and many others.

The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system, comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph directionally towards the heart.  Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart.

E-Learning for Patients

What better way to manage, understand, and support your bodies needs than to learn about your personal bodies messages e.g. symptoms (niggles, aches, & pains). Learn how to become your own Physical Therapist, Personal Trainer and Functional Nutritionist. Having been in the Health and Wellbeing Industry since 1992 I have seen more substantial results with Patients who ‘learn’ how to manage their personal human system.

Integrated Systems Model (ISM) Certified

A model, not a methodology which has evolved from 40 years of collaborative clinical and education experience.  It is a framework to help clinicians organize their knowledge and provide the best possible treatment for the individual patient.  Since every clinician has a different skill set, an ISM therapist will never be a clone of someone else nor will they only adhere to specific therapies or algorithms. Each therapist is as unique and individual as the people they seek to help, why would therapy be any different?  The Integrated Systems Model umbrellas all others.
